30 Sep 2025 Celebrating Ho-Chunk Heritage at the McFarland Community Festival
The Historical Museum was proud to participate in the annual McFarland Community Festival on the weekend of September 27–28, 2025. Our doors were open both Saturday and Sunday, welcoming festival-goers to explore our newest exhibit highlighting the culture, daily life, and technologies of the Ho-Chunk people who first called this region home.
Saturday’s visitors were treated to a special performance by the Wisconsin Dells Singers and Dancers. This talented intergenerational group filled the museum grounds with the rhythms of traditional drumming and the beauty of vibrant, colorful regalia. Their songs and dances offered an inspiring glimpse into Ho-Chunk heritage and traditions.
Following the performance, local artist and master wood carver Gene Delcourt demonstrated his craft, sharing the artistry and skill that goes into creating hand-carved works.
We are grateful to the performers, artists, volunteers, and guests who joined us for this celebration of Ho-Chunk culture and history. This fantastic event wouldn’t have been possible without the hard work of Deb Brennum—thank you so much! We’re also grateful to MHS volunteer Jane Licht, who captured these wonderful photographs of the weekend’s events.
